Journey Into Self

Leaders are more powerful role models when they learn than when they teach.

—Rosabeth Moss Kantor

Yoga is everywhere.  It is the hot sweaty class you go to once a week to get your workout, it is the restorative class you somehow find time for to de-stress from a long day, it is the practice of simple awareness of habits of thought you ground yourself in to stay mindful and present in your every day life with your family, friends, and work.

Yoga gives us a structure to create boundaries through discernment, the process of yes and no, in a kind, loving way for self and others.  Tools to deal with everyday stress and life changing events.  Simple practices to cultivate compassion in the self to be better in our careers, relationships, and to have a clearer world view.

We are very excited to announce our first Ananda Yoga Teacher Training.  This training will help you establish strong and healthy Samskaras (patterns) so that you may have a ripple effect outwards to others.  Through deep exploration of your true self, we will guide you through a holistic yoga journey of body, mind, and spirit (breath).  We will cover foundations in anatomy and asana (yoga poses), classical yoga philosophy and history, pranayama (breath work), meditation, how to establish a solid practice, and more.

This is an opportunity to take your practice deeper, expand your boundaries and discover your potential.  Explore yourself through the compassionate, clear eyes of yoga.  This training will lay the foundation to take your personal practice to a new level and to start your journey as a yoga teacher, should you choose that path.

There are no expectations of you to look any certain way in your physical practice, nor to know anything in particular about yoga.  Our only expectation is that you show up fully - present, aware, open minded, and committed on your journey.

For those of you who are coming from out of town, we are going to offer as much as we can online. Yoga Alliance requires a certain amount of hours in person, but we will do our best to accommodate you.

Your Teachers:

Sylvia Carl:

I started yoga, as a very stiff body, to become more flexible for climbing.  Over the last 20 plus years, yoga has become the foundation for how I align my physical body as well how I align myself in the world.

Meghan Lucas:

I started yoga because I was desperate to feel better and find a method of managing my crazy. Over the last seven years of committed practice, it is THE constant that helps me stay centered and connected to the source below the surface, and engage with the world in a way that encourages growth, community, and the supreme power of love. My disclaimer is that while it’s still quite stormy inside, I live from the eye of the storm and get swept away less and less as time forever marches forward.

Liz Davis

The human body has captured my attention for more than four decades and I am privileged to continue my fascination with it.

Student Expectations

Ananda’s 200-hour yoga teacher training, Journey into the Self, is a 9 weekend program. Our goal is for all students to feel enriched, enlivened and empowered, and feel that they have found their authentic voice. In order to receive the most benefit we ask that each student agree and adhere to a high level of participation and ethical behavior. These guidelines will create an atmosphere conducive to growth, experience, and comfort for all teacher trainees in the program. Expectations are:

  • Honesty with assignments

  • Assignments and homework are turned in on time – no late work is accepted

  • Adherence to the Ethical Agreement

  • Maintain professionalism

  • Participate in discussions, group work, and practice teaching

  • Meet personal practice requirements

Material shared in training weekends and anything sent electronically is for your use only. No material, in any format, is to be shared or distributed without the explicit, signed permission of Ananda Health and Wellness Center.

We reserve the right to withhold certification in the case that above requirements are not met, or if a trainer discerns that a student lacks the required understanding or integration of the required materials.

Homework and Assignment Policies

Each training weekend and in-between you are expected to complete various assignments. These have been purposefully selected with the intention of contributing to your experience and development during the program. Everything must be completed, and it must be turned in on time. With that being said, however, we understand that life gets in the way, things happen. LATE HOMEWORK WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED FOR WEEKENDS YOU ARE NOT PRESENT. If this is unavoidable, we expect you to speak with all three of us PRIOR to the missed weekend, to fill out an absentee form and submit it to your mentor or one of the teacher trainers PRIOR to the missed weekend, and complete the work by an agreed upon date of extension. Yoga Teacher Certification will not be awarded to those with outstanding assignments until it has been completed, submitted, and reviewed. Absolutely nothing will be accepted after June 15, 2019. At that time your certification will be forfeited and you will need to retake the entire training again to be eligible for certification.

Attendance Policy:

You must be here! This program is approved by the Yoga Alliance, which requires a certain amount of contact hours with your trainers.  Because of this, we require 100% attendance. If for any reason you miss any amount of the training, even an hour, these guidelines must be followed:

  • You must fill out an absentee form and submit it to your mentor or one of the trainers PRIOR to the missed time. When we have this sheet we can assign you the make-up work. We will be recording all lectures and practices during the weekend. Along with specific assignments to aid with integration and understanding, it will be expected of you to listen to everything.

  • If, for some reason, the work you missed requires face-to-face time with a trainer, you will pay a subsidized private rate of $50/hour. Note, this will only be required for practicum hours make-up, otherwise the work you could do on your own. If you are ever interested in more time with a trainer outside of training weekends, the same rate applies.

  • Special arrangements due to weather, illness, family emergencies, or other unpredictable circumstances will always be made accordingly and with the greatest benefit to the trainee’s success.
